Pledge of Allegiance of the United States

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words "under God," creating the 31-word pledge we say today. Today it reads:

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Section 4 of the Flag Code states:

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag: "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.", should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform men should remove any non-religious headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute."

WOODROW WILSON, SEP. 8, 1914, NATIONAL DAY OF
PRAYER & SUPPLICATION AT ONSET OF WORLD WAR I:

Whereas great nations of the world have taken up arms against
one another and war now draws millions of men into battle...And
Whereas in this as in all things it is our privilege and duty to seek counsel
and succor of Almighty God, humbling ourselves before Him, confessing
our weakness and our lack of any wisdom. equal to these things...
Therefore, I, Woodrow Wilson, President of the United States
of America, do designate...a day of prayer and supplication and do
request all God-fearing persons to repair on that day to their places of
worship there to unite their petitions to Almighty God that, overruling
the counsel of men, setting straight the things they can not govern or
alter, taking pity on the nations now in the throes of conflict, in His
mercy and goodness showing a way where men can see none....Praying
also to this end that He forgive us our sins, our ignorance of His holy will,

DAY 20 - DAILY BIBLE VERSE - JUNE 13, 2010

Isaiah 45:5

I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me,

DAY 20 - DAILY PRAYER (STRENGTHEN) - JUNE 13, 2010

Dear Father,

We come to You a people reminded of how wholly dependent on You we are; our lives, our health, our prosperity, our freedom, our families, our jobs all blessings at Your hand alone.  We recognize that as the beneficiaries of so great a fortune, we have grown complacent, entitled, and ignorant.  We repent.  May our repentance be with all sincerity.

Father strengthen us in our resolve to engage our world for Your kingdom's sake.  May we find the fortitude to love our neighbor as ourself, to love You with our heart, mind, soul and strength.  In so doing, may we know Christ's freedom; from fear and anxiety and addiction.  May we know deep, abiding, healing joy as Your will becomes our purpose, infuses our life with meaning, and brings renewal to our hearts and our land.

Thank you, Father for hearing us.  Amen.

DAY 20 - DAILY HISTORY (STRENGTHEN)- JUNE 13, 2010

ABRAHAM LINCOLN, MAR. 30, 1863, NATIONAL DAY OF
HUMILIATION, FASTING & PRAYER PROCLAMATION:

We have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious Hand
which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and
strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of
our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior
wisdom and virtue of our own.
Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too selfsufficient
to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too
proud to pray to the God that made us! It behooves us then to humble
ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins and
to pray for clemency and forgiveness.

DAY 19 - DAILY BIBLE VERSE - JUNE 12, 2010

Psalm 67:1 (New International Version)

May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face shine upon us, Selah

DAY 19 - DAILY PRAYER - JUNE 12, 2010

A Prayer for the Nation

Almighty God, Who has given us this good land for our heritage; We humbly beseech Thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Thy favor and glad to do Thy will. Bless our land with honorable ministry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion, from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people, the multitude brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endow with Thy spirit of wisdom those whom in Thy name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that through obedience to Thy law, we may show forth Thy praise among the nations of the earth. In time of prosperity fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in Thee to fail; all of which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

DAY 19 - DAILY HISTORY - JUNE 12, 2010

THOMAS JEFFERSON, MAR. 4, 1805, SECOND INAUGURAL:

I shall need, too, the favor of that Being in whose hands we
are, who led our forefathers, as Israel of old, from their native land and
planted them in a country flowing with all the necessities and comforts
of life, who has covered our infancy with His Providence and our riper
years with His wisdom and power, and to whose goodness I ask you to
join with me in supplications that He will so enlighten the minds of
your servants, guide their councils and prosper their measures, that
whatever they do shall result in your good, and shall secure to you the
peace, friendship and approbation of all nations.

DAY 18 - DAILY BIBLE VERSE (BLESSED) - JUNE 11, 2010

Deuteronomy 28 (New American Standard Bible)

1 Now it shall be, if you diligently obey the LORD your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I command you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.
2 All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you obey the LORD your God:
3 Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.

DAY 18 - DAILY PRAYER (BLESSED) - JUNE 11, 2010

Precious Lord Jesus, we come to you today, thanking you for all of your vast riches & blessings that you have bestowed upon America. Remembering, that blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. History has recorded Christopher Columbus’ testimony that You led him to this land. We reaffirm today that you are still the God that America needs and desires to call their God.

Your precious word, the Bible, tells us, that "Thou art a God ready to pardon. “ Your people are crying out in unison for a spiritual awakening in our beloved land! We trust in the goodness of yourself to restore us to you!

Who, oh Lord, could save themselves, their own sin could heal? Our shame was deeper than the sea ... You alone can rescue… you alone can save… You alone can lift us from the grave… (Hymn: You alone can rescue)

Amen.

DAY 18 - DAILY HISTORY (BLESSED) - JUNE 11, 2010

FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT, JAN. 20, 1945, 4TH INAUGURAL:

As I stand here today, having taken the solemn oath of office
in the presence of my fellow countrymen - in the presence of God - I
know that it is America’s purpose that we shall not fail...The Almighty
God has blessed our land in many ways. He has given our people stout
hearts and strong arms with which to strike mighty blows for freedom
and truth. He has given to our country a faith which has become the
hope of all peoples in an anguished world.

So we pray to Him now for the vision to see our way clearly -
to see the way that leads to a better life for ourselves and for all our
fellow men - to the achievement of His will, to peace on earth. In the
presence of God - I know that it is America’s purpose that we shall not
fail.

DAY 17 - DAILY BIBLE VERSE (PRAY FOR ALL MEN) - JUNE 10, 2010

1 Timothy 2:1-3 (New International Version)

1. I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— 2. for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3. This is good, and pleases God our Savior,

DAY 17 - DAILY PRAYER (PUBLIC SERVANTS) - JUNE 10, 2010

Our Heavenly Father:

I come before you to humbly ask for Your blessing and guidance upon the public servants of our nation and the world, and especially those in law enforcement. In an era where one scandal seems to follow another, I ask that you strengthen us Lord, that we may always focus on what is the right thing to do, and that all of our actions and decisions would be acceptable to You.  Please remind us each day that although we serve the public, our foremost obligation is to do Thy will and to serve You.

Thank you Lord for the opportunity to serve our communities, and we pray for strength and wisdom as we meet the challenges of these difficult times.

In Christ’s name we pray, Amen

DAY 16 - DAILY BIBLE VERSE (WINDS AND WAVES) - JUNE 9, 2010

Matthew 8:26-27 (New King James Version)

26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”

DAY 16 - DAILY PRAYER (NATURAL DISASTERS) - JUNE 9, 2010

Oh Lord God, we cry out to You for the ravaged cities across the south.  Cities that have been devastated by storms, tornadoes, and floods.  Your people in these areas are tired; give them rest,  they are hungry; feed them, they are naked; cloth them, and they are homeless; give them shelter. Help soften the hearts of those that have much, so that they would give to those that have little.  Oh God, Your mercy endures forever.  Have mercy upon all who have lost so much to these natural disasters.  Restore unto these people what has been lost, and help them to put value in restored, not new objects.  Let them love the Lord that should be feared, and have compassion on them in their times of anger.  Listen to their needs Oh Lord, hear their public and private prayers. Comfort them in their time of need, and deliver them from their misery.

We also wish to thank you Lord, for the tireless efforts of the many organizations that help in an Earthly way.  The Rapid Response Teams of Samaritan's Purse, the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and the many other saints who provide assistance in these great times of need.  Strengthen their workers Lord, and allow them to spread the gospel to those that are lost. Provide exceedingly and abundantly for the organizations to operate on a daily basis, and give them the tools and people that they need to function.  Provide for the safety of their staff and volunteers, and allow them to save others from peril.

We ask all these things in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Amen.

DAY 15 - DAILY BIBLE VERSE (FAMILIES) - JUNE 8, 2010

1 Chronicles 16:28 (NIV)

Ascribe to the LORD, O families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength,

DAY 15 - DAILY PRAYER (FAMILIES) - JUNE 8, 2010

To Have Strong Families

Father, I pray for all my brother's and sister's

Help them train their children in the way they should live, and give the children hearts to honor and obey their moms and dads. May the fathers not exasperate their children but bring them up to understand how You want them to live. (1 Corinthians 11:3; Proverbs 22:6; Ephesians 6:1,4)

May every husband love his wife as he loves himself, as Christ loved and was willing to give Himself up for the church. Help husbands not be harsh with their wives but be considerate, treating them with respect so their prayers won’t be hindered. (Ephesians 5:33a, 25; Colossians 3:19; 1 Peter 3:7)

May each wife respect her husband and submit to him as to the Lord, as the church submits to Christ. As all of us are to do, may they submit to one another out of reverence for Christ, each looking to the interests of the other. (Ephesians 5:33b, 22, 21; Philippians 2:4) Keep their families strong and together; help them to be givers and not takers.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

GROVER CLEVELAND, DEC. 8, 1885, 1ST ANNUAL
MESSAGE:

The strength, the perpetuity, and the destiny of the nation rest
upon our homes, established by the law of God, guarded by parental
care, regulated by parental authority, and sanctified by parental love...
The mothers of our land, who rule the nation as they mold the
characters and guide the actions of their sons, live according to God’s
Holy Ordinances, and each, secure and happy in the exclusive love of
the father of her children, sheds the warm light of true womanhood,
unperverted and unpolluted, upon all within her pure and wholesome
family circle...
The fathers of our families are the best citizens of the Republic.
Wife and children are the sources of patriotism, and conjugal and
parental affection beget devotion to the country. The man who is
surrounded in his single home with his wife and children has a stake in
the country which inspires him with respect for its laws and courage
for its defense.
