Pledge of Allegiance of the United States

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words "under God," creating the 31-word pledge we say today. Today it reads:

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Section 4 of the Flag Code states:

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag: "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.", should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform men should remove any non-religious headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute."

DAY 16 - DAILY BIBLE VERSE (WINDS AND WAVES) - JUNE 9, 2010

Matthew 8:26-27 (New King James Version)

26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”

DAY 16 - DAILY PRAYER (NATURAL DISASTERS) - JUNE 9, 2010

Oh Lord God, we cry out to You for the ravaged cities across the south.  Cities that have been devastated by storms, tornadoes, and floods.  Your people in these areas are tired; give them rest,  they are hungry; feed them, they are naked; cloth them, and they are homeless; give them shelter. Help soften the hearts of those that have much, so that they would give to those that have little.  Oh God, Your mercy endures forever.  Have mercy upon all who have lost so much to these natural disasters.  Restore unto these people what has been lost, and help them to put value in restored, not new objects.  Let them love the Lord that should be feared, and have compassion on them in their times of anger.  Listen to their needs Oh Lord, hear their public and private prayers. Comfort them in their time of need, and deliver them from their misery.

We also wish to thank you Lord, for the tireless efforts of the many organizations that help in an Earthly way.  The Rapid Response Teams of Samaritan's Purse, the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and the many other saints who provide assistance in these great times of need.  Strengthen their workers Lord, and allow them to spread the gospel to those that are lost. Provide exceedingly and abundantly for the organizations to operate on a daily basis, and give them the tools and people that they need to function.  Provide for the safety of their staff and volunteers, and allow them to save others from peril.

We ask all these things in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Amen.

DAY 16 - DAILY HISTORY (NATURAL DISASTERS) - JUNE 9, 2010

GROVER CLEVELAND, NOV. 1, 1886

And while we contemplate the infinite power of God in earthquake,
flood, and storm let the grateful hearts of those who have been
shielded from harm through His mercy be turned in sympathy
and kindness toward those who have suffered through His visitations.
