Pledge of Allegiance of the United States

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words "under God," creating the 31-word pledge we say today. Today it reads:

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Section 4 of the Flag Code states:

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag: "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.", should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform men should remove any non-religious headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute."

DAY 10 - DAILY BIBLE VERSE (OUR HELP) - JUNE 3, 2010

Psalm 124:8 (New International Version)

Our help is in the name of the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

DAY 10 - DAILY PRAYER (GULF OF MEXICO SPILL) - JUNE 3, 2010

O God our Father, maker of Heaven and Earth.

We beseech Your mercy and grace in this time of trouble in the Gulf of Mexico.  Lord, that You would hear our petitions for the oil spill to cease.  You have provided abundantly for the needs of America through these oil reserves, but through our carelessness and exploitation we have failed You.  Please forgive our transgressions against You in the depths of the sea, and move in a mighty way to correct our missteps.  Heal the wound in the sea floor with the precision of a surgeon, as only You can.  Reclaim the purity and life of the Gulf, and once again make it a source of nourishment and pleasure to Your people.  We also implore You to comfort those who have lost loved ones to this tragedy.   Fill their hearts with joy, not sadness, and give then Your strength in the days ahead.  Supply the financial needs of the fishermen and tourist industry that suffer because of this disaster.  Impart Your wisdom upon the men and women who are tasked with managing these great resources, and aid them in devising better ways to utilize Your generous gifts from the sea.  We wait in hope for You Lord, as You are our great help in times of trouble, and our comforter in times of despair.

DAY 10 - DAILY HISTORY (WATER QUALITY) - JUNE 3, 2010

LYNDON B. JOHNSON, 1965, COMMENT ON HIS DESIRE
FOR THE WATER QUALITY ACT TO BE PASSED:

I wanted, as I once expressed it, to leave to future generations
“a glimpse of the world as God really made it,” not as it looked when
we got through with it.
