Pledge of Allegiance of the United States

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words "under God," creating the 31-word pledge we say today. Today it reads:

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Section 4 of the Flag Code states:

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag: "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.", should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform men should remove any non-religious headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute."

Day 2 - Daily History (Thanksgiving) - May 26, 2010

The same week Congress passed the Bill of Rights, President
George Washington declared, October 3, 1789:
“It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the Providence
of Almighty God, to obey His will...and humbly to implore His
protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have by
their joint Committee requested me ‘to recommend to the People of
the United States a Day of Public Thanksgiving and Prayer to be
observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of
Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to
establish a form of government for their safety and happiness’...

Day 2 - Daily Prayer (Thankfulness) - May 26, 2010

Heavenly Father,  Holy Spirit, & Jesus,

Only You know the future of everyone.  You’ve placed us all together on Earth, and generations have tried to figure out life.  As Your people, we look only to You for life.  We’d be foolish to seek a life without The One who gives us life.  Our days are written down and published as the sun goes down each day.  We tend to not reflect on the thankfulness of having a full day, but we seem to only look to the tasks that await us tomorrow.  My prayer for each American is to daily reflect on the days we have been given.  Giving thanks for what God has given to us.  God, please mend the hearts of Your people with thankfulness, forgiveness, mercy, kindness, gentleness, peace, & Love.
Now, I pray that America rises up only to follow our Savior on His mission to save the World, the World He created & loves with all of His heart.  We need to start with our own homes & homeland.  As we receive forgiveness & healing, then we can get up and move into the World under One banner, His banner.
America, remember Who established us, and remember Who sustains us.  Strengthen yourselves on your knees, thanking the only One Who knows the future of everyone.

Thanks be to God,
God be with you,

Tim, Cheryl, Ava, & Rediet Giese
