Pledge of Allegiance of the United States

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words "under God," creating the 31-word pledge we say today. Today it reads:

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Section 4 of the Flag Code states:

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag: "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.", should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform men should remove any non-religious headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute."

Making History With Our Story
Posted on June 21, 2013 by katherine

Lyle Mason- let’s go make history in a few hours & start our story together.. Many people have been touched by our God & His incredible love for us & that He would be so gracious in bringing us together so quickly.

Some have questioned, but no one really understands until you have walked in our shoes & had the depth of love that we both shared with our spouses, and knowing how faithful we were to our spouses until death did they part.

God was the one to whom we called upon in those darks hours when no one else was around, as we raised high our arms towards Heaven to worship Him & believe that He had a plan for us even though we couldn’t see it. God was The One we begged, to take away the pain & as He wiped our tears & said, “Trust me, my child, for I know the plans I have for you.”

And, He is the one who saved us, healed us & turned us around for His Glory. He is The One who healed our broken hearts & turned our hearts towards one another.

I pray that many people will find love like we have between us, and that marriages will be restored & re-united to the Father’s heart & to one another. I told you early on in our relationship that I wished every woman could experience the love like you have shown me.

You are one in a zillion, is that a number or word?!! You know me & my math aren’t that great.. LOL

If God be for us, who can be against us? GOD IS SO FOR US & WE HAVE SUCH A GREAT FUTURE AHEAD!! I love you & will see you very soon!!

DAY 39- DAILY PRAYER (PRAYER FOR THE SHIELD OF FAITH) - JULY 2, 2013

July 2

Strong Tower, Fortress, Cornerstone, and Shelter,

We call upon Your Mighty strength today Father, as we lift up our voices to Your throne. We thank You for always being with us, and for Your promise to never leave us nor forsake us. Through faith, You have proven these promises to be true...over and over again. With this evidence of Your unfailing power and protection, let us lift up a great shield of faith in the battle. By hearing Your word, enable us to be strengthened against the attack of the enemy. Equip us with a mighty shield of faith, capable of withstanding all the flaming arrows that satan shoots in our direction. At the end of the day Father, help us to be victorious through Your word. Deliver us Lord from every evil, and set Your word strongly before us this day.

In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen!

DAY 39 - DAILY QUESTION ABOUT GOD'S WORD (WHAT IS THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD - SHIELD OF FAITH?)

July 2

The shield of faith spoken of in verse 16 makes Satan's sowing of doubt about the faithfulness of God and His Word ineffective. Our faith—of which Christ is “the author and perfecter” (Hebrews 12:2)— is like a golden shield, precious, solid, and substantial.

One bullet grazed his elbow, but a second lodged in the back of President James Garfield, who was shot JULY 2, 1881, as he waited in the Washington, D.C., train station.

The assassin was Charles Guiteau, a member of a polygamist-communist cult called the Oneida Community.

Garfield had only been in office four months.

Though not wounded seriously, unsterile medical practices caused him to die two months later.

Secretary of State James Blaine sent news to James Russell Lowell, U.S. Minister in London, September 20, 1881:

“James A. Garfield, President of the United States, died...For nearly eighty days he suffered great pain, and during the entire period exhibited extraordinary patience, fortitude, and Christian resignation. Fifty millions of people stand as mourners by his bier.”

When Vice-President Chester Arthur assumed the Presidency, he declared a National Day of Mourning, September 22, 1881:

"In His inscrutable wisdom it has pleased God to remove from us the illustrious head of the nation, James A. Garfield, late President of the United States...It is fitting that the deep grief which fills all hearts should manifest itself with one accord toward the Throne of Infinite Grace...that we should bow before the Almighty...in our affliction."

James Garfield had been a Major General in the Civil War, a college president and a Disciples of Christ preacher.

Elected a U.S. Congressman, he despised fiat paper currency “Greenbacks,” supporting instead a gold-silver based monetary system.

Elected a U.S. Senator, he gave a stirring speech at the 1880 Republican National Convention opposing the rule that State delegates had to vote unanimously for only one candidate.

In an unprecedented move, after 34 ballots, Garfield was chosen as the Republican nominee over prominent contenders, including Ulysses S. Grant seeking a third term.

As President, James Garfield appointed several African-Americans to prominent federal positions.

In his Inaugural Address, March 4, 1881, Garfield stated:

"Let our people find a new meaning in the divine oracle which declares that 'a little child shall lead them,' for our own little children will soon control the destinies of the Republic...

Our children...will surely bless their fathers and their fathers' God that the Union was preserved, that slavery was overthrown, and that both races were made equal before the law."

Garfield described the Chancellor of the newly united Germany:

"I am struck with the fact that Otto von Bismarck, the great statesman of Germany, probably the foremost man in Europe today, stated as an unquestioned principle, that the support, the defense, and propagation of the Christian Gospel is the central object of the German government."

At the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1876, then Congressman James Garfield stated:

“Now more than ever before, the people are responsible for the character of their Congress.

If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption.

If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature...

If the NEXT CENTENNIAL does not find us a great nation...it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces."

Winning the Lost @ Any Cost
Posted on March 30, 2012 by katherine

“He who wins souls is wise.” Prov.11:30 NKJV

I’m not much of a lottery player, but here in Texas I always hear the advertisements for the Mega Millions. Although it seems to be appealing, I am always reminded of something greater than winning millions… Winning Souls for Christ!

Mark 16:15-18 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.” We must go and share our faith if we don’t, then who will? Mark Cahill said it so perfectly, “It’s not how can I share my faith, it’s how can I Not share my faith.”

Let sharing your faith take precedence over everything else. I encourage you to start praying every morning for God to send you people to minister to and share Jesus with, talking about changing someone’s future- The Bible says, “what does it profit a man to gain the whole world & loose his own soul”? Lord help us not to be so concerned with the things of this world that we ignore a lost and dying world.

Jesus’ last words were to Go into all the world & spread the gospel to the ends of the earth? “If a commission by an earthly king is considered a honor, how can a commission by a Heavenly King be considered a sacrifice?” David Livingstone

God, we pray that you would keep us focused on winning souls at any costs! Its Heaven or Hell for everyone. The Bible says in Romans 14:10, that we will be held accountable for our choices. I pray that we make good choices in putting supremacy on soul winning. I can see it now, people running up to us in Heaven thanking us for taking time to talk to them about Jesus.

John Wesley said it so profoundly, “You have nothing to do but to save souls. Therefore spend and be spent in this work. And go not only to those that need you, but to those that need you most…It is not your business to preach so many times, and to take care of this or that society; but to save as many souls as you can; to bring as many sinners as you possibly can to repentance.”

Lord, we pray that we wouldn’t be so busy with life that we can’t take a few moments of everyday to share our faith with others. God, let your last words be our Great Commission, reaching the world for Jesus. I love what Billy Sunday said, “Let’s quit fiddling with religion and do something to bring the world to Christ.”

DAY 38 - DAILY PRAYER (PRAYER FOR THE FEET OF READINESS) - JULY 1, 2013

July 1

Anointed One,

We thank You this day for the legs and feet that we walk upon. Father, for those of us that do not have legs or feet, we pray for their swift mobility in every circumstance. We also pray today for the spiritual fitting of our feet with a readiness to share Your gospel message with everyone that we encounter. That we might be bold in not only delivering Your word, but also in preparing to go out into all the world armed with it. May we diligently pray for a great equipping of Your word for our journey. Father, help us to run confidently into the battlefield, secure in the saving grace of Your word, and the knowledge that You will be with us.

In Jesus' mighty name we pray. Amen!

DAY 38 - DAILY QUESTION ABOUT GOD'S WORD (WHAT IS THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD - FEET OF READINESS?)

July 1

Verse 15 speaks of the preparation of the feet for spiritual conflict. In warfare, sometimes an enemy places dangerous obstacles in the path of advancing soldiers. The idea of the preparation of the gospel of peace as footwear suggests what we need to advance into Satan's territory, aware that there will be traps, with the message of grace so essential to winning souls to Christ. Satan has many obstacles placed in the path to halt the propagation of the gospel.

Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders charged up Cuba's San Juan Hill and captured it on JULY 1, 1898.

After eight hours of heavy fighting there were over 1,500 American casualties, with the wounded being cared for by Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross.

The Spanish-American War was preceded by atrocities in Cuba, as it was the second last place in the Western Hemisphere, following Brazil, where slavery still existed.

President James Buchanan had written, December 19, 1859:

"When a market for African slaves shall no longer be furnished in Cuba...Christianity and civilization may gradually penetrate the existing gloom."

President Ulysses S. Grant stated, December 2, 1872:

"Slavery in Cuba is...a terrible evil...It is greatly to be hoped that...Spain will voluntarily adopt...emancipation...in sympathy with the other powers of the Christian and civilized world."

In 1868, a Creole farmer in Cuba began a revolt. Cubans drafted a "10th of October Manifesto":

"When rebelling us against the Spanish tyranny we want to indicate to the world the reasons...

Spain governs us with iron and blood; it imposes...taxes at will; it prevails us from all political, civil and religious freedom; it has put us under military watch in days of peace, that catch, exile and execute without being subject to any proceedings...it prohibits that we freely assemble...

Spain loads us with hungry employees who live from our patrimony and consume the product of our work...

So that we do not know our rights it maintains us in the ignorance...

It forces us to maintain a expensive army, whose unique use is to repress and to humiliate us...

To the God of our consciousness we appealed, and to the good faith of the civilized nations...

We want to enjoy the freedom for whose use God created man...We want to abolish slavery...We want freedom of meeting, freedom of the press..."

The Spanish Government crushed the revolt in what was called, "The Ten Years War," killing thousands.

Under international pressure, Spain issued a Royal decree in 1886, ending slavery.

In 1879, the Little War took place, and in 1895, a final rebellion broke out.

Spain sent Valeriano Weyler to be the Governor of Cuba with orders to smash the anti-government protestors.

Governor Weyler pioneered the use of "concentration camps," where he rounded up hundreds of thousands of Cuban civilians from their rural farms and marched them into crowded camps.

Between 1896-1897, over a third of Cuba's population was in concentration camps, and over 225,000 died from starvation, exposure and yellow fever.

When pleas for help reached the United States, the U.S.S. Maine was sent to Havana. On February 15, 1898, it blew up in the harbor, under suspicious circumstances.

Newspaper publishers William Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer stirred the public with "yellow press" journalism into demanding President McKinley intervene militarily.

McKinley finally approved the Resolution of Congress, April 20, 1898:

"Whereas the abhorrent conditions which have existed for more than three years in the island of Cuba, so near our own borders, have shocked the moral sense of the people of the United States, have been a disgrace to Christian civilization,

culminating, as they have, in the destruction of a United States battle ship, with 266 of its officers and crew, while on a friendly visit in the harbor of Havana, and cannot longer be endured...

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives...that the people of the island of Cuba are and of right ought to be free."

Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Theodore Roosevelt, resigned and organized the first volunteer cavalry, made up of polo riders, cowboys and even Indians, helping to win the Battle of San Juan Hill.

Spain lost control of Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines.

President William McKinley wrote, July 6, 1898:

"At a time...of the...glorious achievements of the naval and military arms...at Santiago de Cuba, it is fitting that we should pause and...reverently bow before the throne of divine grace and give devout praise to God, who holdeth the nations in the hollow of His Hands."

Thank You for showing me the truth about myself -- that on my own I could never be good enough to live in your presence. Thank you for taking my sins to the cross and offering me your perfect, RIGHTEOUS life. Lord, show me any sin that I need to confess right now, so that nothing will hinder me from being filled to overflowing with your Spirit.[Take time for confession] Thank you for forgiving me and for filling me with your RIGHTEOUS life.

Also in verse 14, we are told to put on the breastplate of righteousness. A breastplate shielded a warrior’s vital organs from blows that would otherwise be fatal. This righteousness is not works of righteousness done by men. Rather, this is the righteousness of Christ, imputed by God and received by faith, which guards our hearts against the accusations and charges of Satan and secures our innermost being from his attacks.

The first European settlement in North America was Fort Caroline at St. John's River in Florida, founded by French Christians known as Huguenots, who came for religious freedom.

On JUNE 30, 1564, they set a day of Thanksgiving and offered the first Protestant prayer in North America:

"We sang a psalm of Thanksgiving unto God, beseeching Him that it would please Him to continue His accustomed goodness towards us."

Rep. Charles E. Bennett sponsored a bill, September 21, 1950, establishing the Fort Caroline National Memorial.

In 1989, Rep. Bennett recited the history:

"The 425th anniversary of the beginning settlements by Europeans...renamed from Fort Caroline to San Mateo, to San Nicolas, to Cowford and finally to Jacksonville in 1822...

Three small ships carrying 300 Frenchmen led by Rene de Laudonniere anchored in the river known today as the St. Johns."

Charles Bennett continued:

"On June 30, 1564, construction of a triangular-shaped fort...was begun with the help of a local tribe of Timucuan Indians...

Home for this hardy group of Huguenots...their strong religious...motivations inspired them."

Rep. Bennett related the colony's unfortunate end:

"Fort Caroline existed but for a short time...Spain...captured...the fort and...slaughtered most of its inhabitants in September of 1565."

Swept Away by Love
Posted on January 31, 2013 by katherine

I used to think that I wanted to be lavished with gifts & swept away by Mr Charming. Now don’t get me wrong, I still love all of that, but I am finding out more than the gifts being lavished on me, I would rather have His goodness & unfailing love follow me & pursue me all the days of my life.

Love is not bought or by speaking words. Love is not trying to assault me, coerce me, squeeze me, or violate me into loving you. Love is not forced, enslaved, or obligatory.

Love is your lifestyle. Love is displaying your gracious heart full of meekness and your soft answer turning away wrath. It’s not shouting or yelling for me to love you. Love is honesty and integrity when no one is looking. Love is good-hearted, courteous, helpful, virtuous, tender, and full of understanding.

Love is protecting me, preserving the gifts inside of me, encouraging me in what God created me to do, not in just being a wife to you… It goes far deeper than that.. Your love should be freely given & even at the cost of your life. Are you willing to lay your life down for love?

With all of that being said, I am captivated by 1 Cor. 13:4-7 MSG, and it is my pre-requisite for being swept away by love:

“Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have. Love doesn’t strut, Doesn’t have a swelled head, Doesn’t force itself on others, Isn’t always “me first,” Doesn’t fly off the handle. Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others, Doesn’t revel when others grovel, Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth. Puts up with anything, Trusts God always, Always looks for the best, Never looks back, But keeps going to the end.”

DAY 36 - DAILY PRAYER (PRAYER FOR THE BELT OF TRUTH) - JUNE 29, 2013

June 29

Almighty Father of all truth,

We exult You Father, as our greatest source of truth. The same truth that will set us free, and the truth that will shed light upon the lies of the enemy. We pray today Father for an abundance of Your truth in our lives, that we may be made aware of the truth in all aspects of our lives. Help us to hear clearly and directly the words of truth, as the enemy tries to drown them out in the noise and chaos of this world. Help us to not only hear the words of truth, but to become speakers of truth in everything that we say. Father, keep the hands of the enemy from our ears, and the tongue of lies from our mouths. We seek Your great truth heavenly Father.

In Jesus' name we pray. Amen!

DAY 36 - DAILY QUESTION ABOUT GOD'S WORD (WHAT IS THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD - BELT OF TRUTH?)

June 29

Question: "What is the full armor of God?"

Answer:The phrase “full armor of God” comes fromEphesians 6:13-17: “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

Ephesians 6:12clearly indicates that the conflict with Satan is spiritual, and therefore no tangible weapons can be effectively employed against him and his minions. We are not given a list of specific tactics Satan will use. However, the passage is quite clear that when we follow all the instructions faithfully, we will be able to stand, and we will have victory regardless of Satan’s strategy.

The first element of our armor is truth (verse 14). This is easy to understand, since Satan is said to be the “father of lies” (John 8:44). Deception is high on the list of things God considers to be an abomination. A “lying tongue” is one of the things He describes as “detestable to Him” (Proverbs 6:16-17). We are therefore exhorted to put on truth for our own sanctification and deliverance, as well as for the benefit of those to whom we witness.

"I would rather be right than President," answered Henry Clay, when told his abolitionist position would cost him the election.

Clay was 3 times a candidate for President, once only 5,000 votes short.

The son of a Baptist minister, Henry Clay studied law under George Wythe, served in Congress over 40 years and was Speaker of the House 6 times.

Henry Clay stated in 1841:

"Patriotism, which, catching its inspiration from the immortal God...prompts to deeds of self-sacrifice, of valor, of devotion, and of death itself - that is public virtue, that is the noblest, the sublimest of all public virtues."

Clay was part of the "Great Triumvirate," with Daniel Webster and John Calhoun which led Congress during the early 1800's.

He helped negotiate the treaty ending the War of 1812 and was key to John Quincy Adams being the 6th President instead of Andrew Jackson.

In 1824, Clay supported Greeks who wanted freedom from the Muslim Ottoman Empire, and he supported South Americans wanting freedom from Spain.

Abraham Lincoln described Henry Clay in a eulogy, July 6, 1852:

"When Greece rose against the Turks and struck for liberty, his name was mingled with the battle-cry of freedom.

When South America threw off the thraldom of Spain, his speeches were read at the head of her armies by Bolivar.

His name...will continue to be hallowed in two hemisphere... Clay was without an equal...He exorcised the demon which possessed the body politic...

Clay's efforts in behalf of the South Americans, and...in behalf of the Greeks, in the times of their respective struggles for civil liberty are among the finest on record."

In 1832, when an Asiatic Cholera epidemic ravaged New York, Henry Clay recommended a Day of: "Public humiliation, prayer and fasting to be observed by the people of the United States with religious solemnity."

Henry Clay was second cousin's of abolitionist Cassius Marcellus Clay, and in 1816, helped establish the American Colonization Society to aid free American blacks in founding Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa.

Clay addressed the Kentucky Colonization Society in Frankfort, 1829:

"Eighteen hundred years have rolled away since the Son of God, our blessed Redeemer, offered Himself on Mount Calvary for the salvation of our species...

When we shall, as soon we must, be translated from this into another form of existence, is the hope presumptuous that we shall behold the common Father of the whites and blacks, the great Ruler of the Universe, cast his all-seeing eye upon civilized and regenerated Africa, its cultivated fields, its coasts studded with numerous cities, adorned with towering temples dedicated to the pure religion of His Redeeming Son?"

Known as "The Great Compromiser," Clay opposed the Mexican-American War, and struggled to maintain the Union between the North and the South by proposing "The Compromise of 1850."

Henry Clay told the Senate, February 5, 1850:

"I hope it will not be out of place to do here, what again and again I have done in my private chamber, to implore of Him who holds the destinies of nations and individuals in His hands, to bestow upon our country His blessing, to calm the violence and rage of party, to still passion...

May I not ask of Him too, sir, to bestow on his humble servant...the blessing of his smiles, and of strength and ability to perform the work which now lies before him?...

I implore...Heaven...that if...the dissolution of this Union is to happen, I shall not survive to behold the sad and heart-rending spectacle."

Nine year before the Civil War began, Henry Clay died from tuberculosis, JUNE 29, 1852.

The first to lie in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, a statue of Henry Clay was placed in the Capitol's Statuary Hall by the State of Kentucky.

Fifteen counties across America were named for him.

In 1957, a Senate Committee headed by John F. Kennedy named Clay one of the 5 best Senators ever.

Rep. John C. Breckinridge recalled Henry Clay as having said:

"The vanity of the world, and its insufficiency to satisfy the soul of man, has been long a settled conviction of my mind.

Man's inability to secure by his own merits the approbation of God, I feel to be true...

I trust in the atonement of the Saviour of mercy, as the ground of my acceptance and of my hope of salvation."

Henry Clay warned the Senate, July 22, 1850:

"If there be a war...I will not assert what party would prevail...for you know, sir, what all history teaches...that few wars...have ever terminated in the accomplishment of the objects for which they were commenced...

Think alone of our God, our country, our consciences, and our glorious Union...without which we shall be torn into hostile fragments, and sooner or later become the victims of military despotism, or foreign domination..."

Clay continued:

"What will be the judgment of mankind...who are looking upon the progress of this scheme of self-government as being that which holds out the highest hopes...of ameliorating the condition of mankind...

Will not all the monarchs of the old world pronounce our glorious republic a disgraceful failure?...

It is possible that, for the chastisement of our sins and transgressions, the rod of Providence may be still applied to us, may be still suspended over us...

I pray to Almighty God that it may not lead to the most unhappy and disastrous consequences to our beloved country"
