Pledge of Allegiance of the United States

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words "under God," creating the 31-word pledge we say today. Today it reads:

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Section 4 of the Flag Code states:

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag: "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.", should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform men should remove any non-religious headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute."

DAY 4 - DAILY PRAYER (PRAY, EVEN IN PUBLIC)

May 28

All present and knowing Father,

We commit to you today our prayers of thanksgiving and praise. That through your word we are not only encouraged to pray, but we are commanded to pray. Give us a fresh heart to bring our prayers and petitions before you throughout each new day, and help us to seek Your face in thanksgiving and praise. Let us publicly seek you without fear, as your one and only son showed us in His acts of calling upon You. May we also be encouraged to seek you in private, as you have instructed us in Your word. Thank You for allowing us to bring our concerns and daily needs before Your throne, as we know that You are attentive to our desires and needs. Help our nation to once again come to You in humble prayer and petition, as You alone are our great source of hope in this dying world. We lift up this day to You, and commit as Your people to increase our time in prayer to You from this time forward!

We pray in Jesus' precious name. Amen!
