Pledge of Allegiance of the United States

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words "under God," creating the 31-word pledge we say today. Today it reads:

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Section 4 of the Flag Code states:

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag: "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.", should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform men should remove any non-religious headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute."

1 Thessalonians 5:21 (The Voice Bible)

To Judge or Not

James 4:11-12(NLT) says, “Don’t speak evil of each other… So what right do you have to judge your neighbor”?

Don’t you just love when people judge you?  No!  No one likes to be judged.  We judge in so many different ways: not knowing the whole story, the way a situation was handled or not handled correctly or past lifestyle choices.   Or, have you been guilty of judging someone because they didn’t meet up to your expectations?  The Bible says, “Judge not, lest you be judged.”  Those are harsh but necessary words.

Ephesians 4:29 (NKJV) “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.”

God we ask that you help us to be more compassionate, forgiving, gentle, kind, loving, and patient.  Let us speak words of life instead of words of judgement.   We lift up our eyes to you Lord, not to concentrate on judging others but to let you be the judge.  We want hearts that are forgiving without finding fault, not looking for the speck in others.  Help us to find good in those whom others have written off.

Lord, I pray that you would bring healing to those who have been judged.  Let them sense your sweet presence of love towards them now, no matter what they have done.   Thank you Lord for your love and forgiveness.  And, thank you for not judging us when we should have been judged.  Your mercy, O God, endures forever!

Let this verse be your life mission statement, Colossians 4:6 MSG “..Make the most of every opportunity. Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out.”

DAY 10 - DAILY PRAYER (MEDIA) - JUNE 3, 2012

June 3

Father, once again, I come before your throne - first to give honor and praise and thanksgiving. What a marvelous God you are!! Thank you for your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank you for your holy Word, the Bible. Thank you for the freedoms afforded us as citizens of America. Thank you  that you are unchanging - who you were yesterday and who you will be tomorrow is exactly who you are today! In this world of constant change, how wonderful that we have a God who does not change. A God whose Word does not change - what You spoke in the beginning, still holds for today. What you desired for your people of yesteryear, is still the desire of your heart today and will be tomorrow.

Father, I especially want to pray for all those associated with the media - producers, directors, publishers, actors, songwriters, artists - anyone and everyone who works in the field or has influence in the field of media. Father, give them a life-changing encounter with you - one that will bring peace into their lives. I come against selfish ambition and egotistic tendencies.

I ask, Father, that You grant wisdom and understanding to media leaders as they make decisions that will impact our world and especially the minds of our youth and children. I come against the violence and lewdness in the media. I ask for a return of sanctity of marriage and the family being portrayed in the lives and productions of the media. I pray for believers who work in media - give them courage and boldness as they hold fast to their beliefs and become true witnesses of your goodness and mercy.

Father, use the world of media to your advantage. Let your love and power flow throughout our nation and even our world. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

DAY 10 - DAILY HISTORY - AMERICAN MINUTE FOR JUNE 3, 2012

June 3

During its Golden Age, the Dutch Republic of the Seven United Netherlands had settlements around the world, including a monopoly on trade with Asia, financed by the first modern stock market.

The Dutch sent Henry Hudson to find a water route across America to the Pacific.

Though unsuccessful, Hudson claimed the land along the "Hudson" River, and there the Dutch West India Company founded the New Netherlands Colony, receiving its charter JUNE 3, 1621.

Franklin Roosevelt told the Detroit Jewish Chronicle, March 7, 1935:

"All I know about the origin of the Roosevelt family in this country is that all branches bearing the name are apparently descended from Claes Martenssen Van Roosevelt, who came from Holland sometime before 1648."

The Chamber of Amsterdam wrote in articles for the Dutch Colony, 1624:

"They shall within their territory practice no other form of divine worship than that of the Reformed religion...and thus by their Christian life and conduct seek to draw the Indians and other blind people to the knowledge of God and His word, without, however, persecuting any on account of his faith, but leaving each one the use of his conscience."

The Charter of Freedoms, June 7, 1629, gave land to wealthy "Patroons" who helped 50 families emigrate, stating:

"Colonists shall...in the speediest manner...find out ways and means whereby they may support a Minister and Schoolmaster, that thus the service of God and zeal for religion may not grow cool."

In 1664, the Dutch Colony of New Netherlands was taken over by the English and renamed New York.

Welling: In the early sixties of the seventeenth century, Pieter Plockhoy of Zeeland province, The Netherlands, started the first of the many Utopias which shine in the pages of American history. In 1662 he sailed from Holland with twenty-four families, to establish his colony of 'universal Christian brotherhood,' ... to raise up an universal magistrate in Christendom, that can suffer all sorts of people (of what religion soever they are) in any one country, as God suffers the same in all the countries of the world.' The city of Amsterdam met the expenses of the expedition. The place chosen was on the Delaware River, & the following year forty more immigrants joined those already there. Plockhoy's Utopia was soon to come to a terrible end. It resisted the British troops of Sir Robert Carr which landed in New Netherland in 1664, & was destroyed 'to a very naile.'

DAY 9 - DAILY DEVOTION - JUNE 2, 2012

June 2

Winning the Lost @ Any Cost

“He who wins souls is wise.” Prov.11:30 NKJV

I’m not much of a lottery player, but here in Texas I always hear the advertisements for the Mega Millions.   Although it seems to be appealing, I am always reminded of something greater than winning millions… Winning Souls for Christ!

Mark 16:15-18 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.”  We must go and share our faith if we don’t, then who will?  Mark Cahill said it so perfectly, “It’s not how can I share my faith, it’s how can I Not share my faith.”

Let sharing your faith take precedence over everything else.  I encourage you to start praying every morning for God to send you people to minister to and share Jesus with, talking about changing someone’s future- The Bible says, “what does it profit a man to gain the whole world & loose his own soul”?  Lord help us not to be so concerned with the things of this world that we ignore a lost and dying world.

Jesus’ last words were to Go into all the world & spread the gospel to the ends of the earth?  “If a commission by an earthly king is considered a honor, how can a commission by a Heavenly King be considered a sacrifice?” David Livingstone

God, we pray that you would keep us focused on winning souls at any costs!  Its Heaven or Hell for everyone.   The Bible says in Romans 14:10, that we will be held accountable for our choices.   I pray that we make good choices in putting supremacy on soul winning.  I can see it now, people running up to us in Heaven thanking us for taking time to talk to them about Jesus.

John Wesley said it so profoundly, “You have nothing to do but to save souls.  Therefore spend and be spent in this work.  And go not only to those that need you, but to those that need you most…It is not your business to preach so many times, and to take care of this or that society; but to save as many souls as you can; to bring as many sinners as you possibly can to repentance.”

Lord, we pray that we wouldn’t be so busy with life that we can’t take a few moments of everyday to share our faith with others.   God, let your last words be our Great Commission, reaching the world for Jesus.    I love what Billy Sunday said, “Let’s quit fiddling with religion and do something to bring the world to Christ.”

DAY 9 - DAILY PRAYER (UNITY OF THE CHURCH) - JUNE 2, 2012

June 2

A PRAYER FOR CHURCH UNITY

I want to pray for the church; in particular, the unity of the church.

Let us pray:

Father God, we gather here as brothers and sisters, standing together.  We represent many different churches and denominations, with our own traditions, gifts, and talents - but also with a oneness in our Lord Jesus Christ.  It was He, when He was here on earth that said, "I have come to build my church and the gates of hell will not, will not prevail against it". But our adversary, the Devil does not want a oneness or unity in the church.  He wants us divided and ineffective.  He does not want your word spoken or prayed over the land and the people.  Satan wants to compromise us before the world.  But we resist that, we fight against that, we come and bind Satan and his agents where ever they are found to prevent a compromised church.  Jesus prayed for the unity of the church when he said, "Love one another, as I have loved you".

O Gracious Father, we humbly beseech you for the world-wide church of Christ, that you would be pleased to fill it with all truth, in all peace.  Where it is corrupt, purify it; where it is in error, direct it; where in anything it is amiss, reform it; where it is right, establish it; and where it is in want, provide for it; for the sake of Him who died and rose again, and ever lives to make intercession for us.  We will walk according to your Spirit, Lord, and we know this will fulfill the righteous requirements of your law in our life.  May all the members of your church be alive to the opportunities and responsibilities of these times.  There is but one body and one spirit, and one hope of our calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of us all, so we may be all of one heart and one soul, united in one holy bond of truth and peace, of faith and charity, and may with one mind and one mouth glorify you; through Jesus Christ or Lord.

Amen and Amen!

DAY 9 - DAILY HISTORY - AMERICAN MINUTE FOR JUNE 2, 2012

June 2

A wedding took place in the White House, JUNE 2, 1886.

One of three Presidents to marry in office and the only President to wed on White House grounds, Grover Cleveland married Frances Folsom, and together they had five children.

Cleveland, both the 22nd and 24th President, stated in his 2nd Inaugural, March 4, 1893:

"Above all, I know there is a Supreme Being who rules the affairs of men and whose goodness and mercy have always followed the American people, and I know He will not turn from us now if we humbly and reverently seek His powerful aid."

In a Message to Congress, December 2, 1895, President Cleveland stated:

"Reported massacres of Christians in Armenia and the development there and in other districts of a spirit of fanatic hostility to Christian influences naturally excited apprehension for the safety of the devoted men and women who, as dependents of the foreign missionary societies in the United States, reside in Turkey."

President Cleveland continued:

"Several of the most powerful European powers have secured a right...not only in behalf of their own citizens...but as agents of the Christian world...to enforce such conduct of Turkish government as will refrain fanatical brutality."

The next year, President Cleveland stated, December 7, 1896:

"The rage of mad bigotry and cruel fanaticism...wanton destruction of homes and the bloody butchery of men, women, and children, made martyrs to their profession of Christian faith...

The outbreaks of blind fury which lead to murder and pillage in Turkey occur suddenly and without notice..."

Grover Cleveland concluded:

"I do not believe that the present somber prospect in Turkey will be long permitted to offend the sight of Christendom.

It so mars the humane and enlightened civilization that belongs to the close of the 19th century that it seems hardly possible that the earnest demand of good people throughout the Christian world for its corrective treatment will remain unanswered."

June 1

Luke 10:35 (The Voice Bible)

DAY 8 - DAILY DEVOTION - JUNE 1, 2012

June 1

Agape Love

Are you a loving person?  Most people will answer very quickly, Yes!  I’m not talking about romantic love.  I’m talking about Agape love:  showing un-conditional love, doing something for someone with no expectations in return.  Jesus was our best example in showing un-selfish love:  John 15:13 NIV “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”  The Message Bible says, “This is my command: Love one another the way I loved you. This is the very best way to love.  Put your life on the line for your friends.”

Wikipedia says, “Love is a virtue representing all of human kindness, compassion, and affection; and the unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another”.

Jesus showed us how to love, without wanting anything in return, loving the un-lovely.   God, You took time for those who didn’t understand love, yet you loved them.  Help us to love when someone isn’t worthy of our love, to love the hurting & oppressed, the dying, and the sick in heart.

Maybe, you are having a hard time trying to love your co-worker who annoys you, the drug addict down the street who steals money for his habit, or maybe you are scared to show love towards anyone because no one has ever loved you.

Whatever the issues of life that have tried to hinder you from loving- I encourage you today to allow God to prune out the things that have stopped the flow of love.  God, we ask You to cultivate a heart of love in us.   We declare that our hearts will overflow with the Love of the Lord.   We will show love to those whom you put in our paths.   Because He first loved us, we can love!  “Greater love than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

Thank you God for changing our hearts into gentle tender hearts, full of love one for another.  Let your love be contagious! Love Never Fails!

DAY 8 - DAILY HISTORY - AMERICAN MINUTE FOR JUNE 1, 2012

June 1

"Don't Give Up The Ship!" commanded 31-year-old Captain James Lawrence, as he lay wounded on the deck of the U.S.S. Chesapeake.

Captain Lawrence fought Muslim Barbary pirates in 1804, and when the War of 1812 began, he commanded the U.S.S. Hornet which captured the privateer Dolphin and the H.M.S. Peacock.

President Madison wrote May 25, 1813:

"The brilliant achievements of our infant Navy, a signal triumph has been gained by Captain Lawrence...in the Hornet sloop of war...

The contest in which the United States are engaged appeals...to the sacred obligation of transmitting...to future generations that...which is held...by the present from the goodness of Divine Providence."

On JUNE 1, 1813, Captain Lawrence sailed from Boston and was attacked by the British ship Shannon.

Within an hour, nearly every officer was killed.

Later, Captain Oliver Hazard Perry was inspired to name his flagship on Lake Erie "Lawrence."

Theodore Roosevelt wrote in Hero Tales from American History, 1895:

"Lawrence, dying with the words on his lips, 'Don't give up the ship' and Perry...with the same words blazoned on his banner...won glory in desperate conflicts and left a reputation hardly dimmed."

DAY 7 - DAILY BIBLE VERSE (RESTORE) - MAY 31, 2012

May 31

Psalm 80:19 (The Voice Bible)

19 O Eternal God, Commander of heaven’s armies, bring us back to You. Turn the light of Your face upon us so that we will be rescued from this sea of darkness.

DAY 7 - DAILY DEVOTION - MAY 31, 2012

May 31

Firm Foundation

Have you ever been so sleepy and had to wake up and jump out of bed?  You couldn’t get your balance.  You were stumbling around even feeling a little dizzy because you weren’t quite awake.  Then, all of a sudden, you were trying to grab for anything to keep you from falling.  And, in the midst of all the chaos, somehow, you were able to grab a hold of the bed or chair that caught you before falling.

Psalm 34:23-24, “If the Lord delights in a man’s way, he makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.”

Maybe you can’t relate to the stumbling around instead you feel like depression, oppression, or some other kind of darkness has made you feel like you have been pushed into a deep dark cave to where you couldn’t get out or stand up.  Psalm 40:2 “He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.”   You can rest assured He is a safe haven for you to cry out and ask for help in your stumbling around or in your slimy pits.  Psalm 18:2, “The Lord is my rock my fortress and my deliverer, my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge…”  Christ is our Solid Rock, a Firm Foundation in which we can stand and feel secure.

Then, the last part of that verse says, “I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise and I am saved from all my enemies.”  He is ready to save you if you will just call out to Him!  Just like when my daughter falls down and cries out to me for help, I rush over to her side, hold her, kiss her and tell her that its going to be ok.

The Father is waiting for you, so He can wrap his arms around you as He pulls you up and out of the ditch that has held you captive.  Refuse to allow the enemy to make you dizzy, stumble, or fall back into the abyss that once held you.  Plant your feet firmly on Christ the Solid Rock our Firm Foundation.

DAY 7 - DAILY PRAYER (REVIVAL) - MAY 31, 2012

May 31

Father, it is with great joy that I come before You this day. I’m so appreciative of your love, protection and salvation. How blessed I am as your child and as a citizen of this great nation called America.

It is with great remorse that I hold my nation up to You. I’m saddened by the drifting away from the Godly principles upon which we were established, the drifting which has become a deluge of forgetfulness and sinfulness.

Father, I pray for revival, not just an ordinary turning from sinful ways, but a revolutionary, volcanic explosion of turning away from evil. I realize, Father, this MUST begin within your church and I ask that Christians be awakened from slumber. I pray that pastors, evangelists, teachers of the Word, musicians and all Christian leaders would be convinced and convicted of what is sin and would become the forerunners of revival in their spheres of influence.

Father, open our eyes - the eyes of our hearts - to see the depths of sin about us and yes, even within us. Create in us a desire to turn away from even the appearance of evil. I rejoice in the assurance that You are in charge, nothing escapes your notice. Keep us from complacency, both as individuals and as your church. In the precious name of Jesus Christ and for His glory I pray. Amen.

DAY 7 - DAILY HISTORY - AMERICAN MINUTE FOR MAY 31, 2012

May 31

In his Memorial Day Address, MAY 31, 1923, President Calvin Coolidge said:

"Settlers came here from mixed motives...

Generally defined, they were seeking a broader freedom.

They were intent upon establishing a Christian commonwealth in accordance to the principle of self-government...

It has been said that God sifted the nations that He might send choice grain into the wilderness."

Calvin Coolidge continued:

"They had a genius for organized society on the foundations of piety, righteousness, liberty, and obedience of the law...

Who can fail to see in it the hand of destiny? Who can doubt that it has been guided by a Divine Providence?"

At the Memorial Day Ceremony, MAY 31, 1993, President Bill Clinton remarked:

"The inscription on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier says that he is 'Known only to God.' But that is only partly true.

While the soldier's name is known only to God, we know a lot about him.

We know he served his country, honored his community, and died for the cause of freedom.

And we know that no higher praise can be assigned to any human being than those simple words...

In the presence of those buried all around us, we ask the support of all Americans in the aid and blessing of God Almighty."

1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 (The Voice Bible)

12Brothers and sisters, we ask you to show appreciation to those who are working hard among you and those who are your leaders as they guide and instruct you in the Lord—they are priceless. 13When you think about them, let it be with great love in your heart because of all the work they have done. DAY 6 - DAILY DEVOTION - MAY 30, 2012

May 30

Touching, Feeling, & Healing

Luke 8:46 (GW) “Jesus said, “Someone touched me. I know power has gone out of me.”

When my third daughter Aliyah was born, she had some breathing problems. She was inside a little incubator hooked up to all these cords.  Every time we would reach our hand inside the tube to touch her, her heart rate would rise and get higher and higher.   We would just barely even touch her and she knew that someone had touched her.

I have to ask you- Are you touching Jesus to where He knows that you touched Him?  And, is His healing power going out from Him?

Just one touch of the hem of His garment or just one whisper or cry to Him & that same healing power can go out from Him- to you!  Reach out, reach out, I need to say it again, Reach Out & Touch Him!

Will you be so determined to reach out & touch Him?  I like what the New Living Translation says,  “Jesus said, “Someone deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from me.”

Just a few verses before that it said that Jesus was on his way and the crowds almost crushed him.  Can you imagine all the people trying to get to Jesus to see what’s going on or just to touch him.  It could have cost that lady her life, but she didn’t care.  This lady made a desperate decision and got her miracle.  Believe in your heart & go get what you need from Him!

I encourage you to be deliberate & touch Him and as you do, His Healing Power will fall all over you in Jesus Name!

DAY 6 - DAILY PRAYER (PASTORS) - MAY 30, 2012

May 30

Abba Father,

We pray today for the strength and anointing of the Holy Spirit on the Pastors of our churches.  Send Your Holy Spirit in the visible from of a dove to rest upon their shoulder, giving them purity and innocence as they reflect You and Your Son in their daily lives.

Consecrate the men and women whom you alone have placed as leaders in Your body 'the church' as righteous and Holy in Your sight.  Protect their hearts and minds from compromise to the temptations of this Earthly world, and the desires of their flesh.

Lord, as you have set them apart from the flock to guide Your sheep - empower them to lead with a staff of correction and righteousness which is becoming obsolete in today's church.  Speak to them with fresh words of inspiration, and settle their spirit with words of praise and encouragement.

Prevail in their hearts, so that they might love Your people as You love them.  Speak to them in visions and dreams - guiding their thoughts and actions from this day forward.

Design in them an unrelenting passion to seek the lost, and foster relationships.

And Lord, give them a burning desire in their hearts to seek you without yielding.  Place your mighty hand of protection upon them to stave off the enemy, and defend against insidious and visible attacks of Satan and his demons.

We ask these things for the continued fortification of Your men and women that you place over Your flock in Jesus' Mighty Name.  Amen!

DAY 6 - DAILY HISTORY - AMERICAN MINUTE FOR MAY 30, 2012

May 30

Southern women scattered spring flowers on the graves of both the Northern and Southern soldiers who died during the Civil War.

This was the origin of Memorial Day, which in 1868 was set on MAY 30.

In 1968, it was moved to the last Monday in May.

From the Spanish-American War, to World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, War against Islamic Terror, up through the present, all who gave their lives to preserve America's freedom are honored on Memorial Day.

Beginning in 1921, the tradition has been for Presidents to lay a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which is guarded 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The number 21 being the highest salute, the sentry takes 21 steps, faces the tomb for 21 seconds, turns and pauses 21 seconds, then retraces his steps.

Inscribed on the Tomb is the phrase:

"HERE RESTS IN HONORED GLORY AN AMERICAN SOLDIER KNOWN BUT TO GOD."

In his 1923 Memorial Address, President Calvin Coolidge stated:

"There can be no peace with the forces of evil. Peace comes only through the establishment of the supremacy of the forces of good.

That way lies through sacrifice...'Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.'"
